Music has been a
life long pursuit of happiness for Roy. He's a classically trained jazz/rock
player who now plays in church. Roy received his bachelor's degree in music
from Combs College of Music (outside of Philadelphia). At Combs he studied composition under Romeo Cascarino, piano with Morton Berger, and brass with Dr. Donald S. Reinhardt. Dr. Reinhardt is a graduate of both The Combs College of Music and The Curtis Institute of Music (which is the number one music school of the world, located in Philadelphia), where he also served on the faculty. |

Roy is
an original member of the Santana family bands and was very involved with
members of Janis Joplin's bands. His bands have played everywhere from the
Filmore West of San Francisco to Carnegie Hall of New York City, and all
the states that are in between and beyond! He also has a part four different
songs that hit the top 10 on the Billboard Charts. Working with Don Costa (producer of Frank Sinatra) for two years and having had band mates like Tom Harrell and Alfonso Johnson, who have been voted #1 in various Jazz Polls, along with many, many other famous musicians and music business persons is what has given Roy a real musical background, and being able to audition for the San Francisco Symphony didn't hurt either! |

It was
around 1990 that Roy landed on the Outer Banks (no more "bright lights
or big cities") and all of the above experiences are what enables him
to teach 50 students per week as well as perform at so many civic, church,
community and school events. He's been employed by Kitty Hawk United Methodist
Church for music over the past 15 years and has also been on the faculty
of the Music Store for the same amount of time. Roy's professional career began at 13 when his music teacher, Leonard V. Pierro, Jr. hired him to play in his band for weddings, proms, and events, and by the age of 17, with the help of his teacher, was already giving lessons to others. |
